Children + Families Studio Sessions

WHAT HAPPENS on a typical 90 min session

Arrival & Materials

Children enter to find tables with professional materials: oil sticks, proper brushes, unusual surfaces. No instructions waiting.

The Invitation

Our artist might say: "Today I've been thinking about shadows" or "What happens when we paint with our whole body?" Never "Today we're making butterflies."

Deep Work

This is when magic happens. Children experiment, take risks, help each other. Artists work alongside, sharing techniques when asked, never correcting.

Reflection

We look at what emerged. Children who want to share their process do so. Others keep working. No forced sharing, no critique.

Departure

Work goes home (or stays to dry). Children leave paint-splattered and energized.

Materials We Use

- Artist-grade paints (not poster paint)

- Professional brushes in all sizes

- Canvas, wood, fabric

- Found objects and unusual tools

- Clay, wire, and 3D materials

- Whatever the current exhibition artist brings

FAQs

Will my child learn techniques?

Yes, but through experimentation. Artists demonstrate techniques as possibilities, not rules. Children often discover their own methods that surprise us.

What if my child doesn't like getting messy?

We have children who work meticulously clean and others who paint with their whole body. Both are welcome. Aprons available, but dress for mess.

Is this suitable for beginners?

Especially for beginners. No bad habits to unlearn, no fear of "doing it wrong." Often our newest makers are the most fearless.

What's the difference from regular art classes?

We don't teach projects with expected outcomes. Each child's work is entirely their own. Think laboratory, not classroom.

"My daughter came home and said 'The artist asked ME how I made that texture!' She'd never been asked her opinion in an art class before." - Sarah, mother of 8-year-old

"My son has dyslexia and struggles in school. Here, he's confident and focused for 90 minutes straight. It's transformative." - David, father of 9-year-old

"Worth every penny. My child works with REAL materials and comes home feeling like an artist, not a student." - Mei, mother of 11-year-old.
